Customize content with tags

Use tags to easily populate case information in places like forms, obituaries, Planning Center questions, and more.

What is a tag?

Simply put, tags are placeholder text that tells Passare to insert specific case information.

For example, your tagged template might look like:

[%DECEDENT_NAME%] was born in [%PLACE_OF_BIRTH%] on [%DOB%].

Once generated in a case, you would see:

Alice Jones was born in Wichita, Kansas on April 4, 1951.

Depending on the feature, how you tag a template might look different! Continue reading to learn how tags are used to customize various types of templates.

Planning Center templates

Create templates for the content your families will see, such as Planning Center invites, obituaries, and preference questions.

To edit Planning Center invites or obituary templates, go to Settings > Planning Center > Templates.

To edit Planning Center questions, go to Settings > Planning Center > Branding.

Admin Settings sidebar showing Planning Center > Branding and Templates pages

Select the template or question you'd like to edit.

Then, use a combination of text and the provided tags to customize.

In the textbox, type out text and select a tag wherever your template needs populated information.

Now, if the case or organization information is updated in Passare, these templates will automatically reflect the current data.

Form templates

When editing a form, type out the tag on the document and manually map it in Passare.

For DocX forms, type the tag in this format: [%TAG%]

  • This tag should be in all caps, using brackets and percent symbols to bookend it
  • The tag name itself does not matter as long as it is a useful reference for you

For PDF forms there is no specific format, but you do need access to the Prepare a form tool.

With Prepare a form enabled, click into an existing text field or add one.

Double-click the textbox and update the Name field.

By clicking Closeyour text field tag will update.

For a field to be fillable, it must have a text field. However, not all fields must be tagged.
To create a fillable (non-populating) field, add a text field and skip the tagging process!

Upload & map

Once the document is tagged, upload it to Settings > Documents > Templates.

You can either Add New Template or click into an existing form to update its version.

Settings > Documents > Templates page showing Add New Template button and list of documents

With the newest file uploaded, find the tag(s) in your list and map it to the correct field in Passare.
